The Bethesda Urban Partnership sent out their weekly newsletter and one of my paintings (‘C&O Canal Faceoff’) was showcased in the ad about Gallery B. Cool.
Reminder, I’m scheduled to be at the gallery Wednesday from 3pm to 6pm. Drop by if you want to dabble in iPad art ~~~~~ or buy one of our lovely paintings! How to Visit. The gallery is also open Wed through its last day, Saturday, 12pm to 6pm. Thanks to the many who’ve visited — and purchased — our art.
We Seven Palettes are taking turns ‘sitting the gallery’ during our art exhibit this month at Gallery B. I’m scheduled for more duty on Jan. 21, and 25, from 3pm to 6pm.
If you’d like to explore digital art a bit, grab your iPad and come sit with me for awhile. I’ll show you some of my favorite techniques! Here are some of my iPad images, illustrating how varied the results can be — from very detailed representation to impressionistic line drawings and quick notations at the ball park!

Here’s the news blurb Bethesda Urban Partnership circulated today about the Seven Palettes’ ongoing art exhibit in downtown Bethesda.
We’re having another reception for our ‘Local Color‘ show this coming Friday evening, January 13. We’re featuring art, cookies and hot cider for all comers, 6 pm to 8 pm. For directions and parking info: Gallery B (7700 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Suite E).
The day was cold and icy, but that didn’t deter our lively guests from traveling to Gallery B in Bethesda to celebrate the opening of our month-long art exhibit. Thanks to all of our friends and family who were able to attend. And for those who couldn’t get there – we missed you!
Each of us made several nice sales of paintings, prints and greeting cards – and received kudos from those who weren’t in a position to buy. Here’s a glimpse of the festivities.
Here’s another new painting for the Gallery B show. Also inspired by the C & O Canal — late afternoon with the sun raking low across the tree tops.
C & O Face-off. Oil on Linen. 8 x 10.
I did a similar scene in gouache a few years ago, when I was first dabbling in that medium. I love the contrast between the trees in light and shadow and their reflections in the calm canal water.
Some of my painting pals and I (aka ‘the 7 Palettes’) applied awhile back to exhibit our art at Gallery B in downtown Bethesda, MD. We were honored to be selected for a month-long exhibit at this prestigious location during January 2017. Gallery B is a project of the Bethesda Urban Partnership, a local non-profit organization charged by Montgomery County, MD with promoting Bethesda. It gives special support to the arts in our area.
Under the theme of ‘Local Color’, we will showcase our art reflecting the lovely scenes and vistas of the Greater Washington area. Here’s one of my recent paintings of the C & O Canal that will be displayed during this exhibit.
C & O Spotlight. Oil on Linen. 11 x 14.
Gallery B is located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, #E, Bethesda, MD 20814. Gallery hours are 12:00 – 6:00 pm Wednesdays through Saturdays. There will be a public reception during the Bethesda ‘Art Walk’, January 13th, 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Please join us!
I am delighted that my neighbor, Dr. Charlotte Jensen, has invited me to exhibit some of my paintings in her offices, C2M Chiropractic, in North Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Jensen is displaying some of my iPad paintings, printed as giclees on high quality archival papers in archival inks. In addition to a series of veggies and flowers recently showcased at Brookside Gardens, these landscapes are part of the new exhibit.

The prints are scheduled to appear in Dr. Jensen’s office gallery over the next year.
Our two-day exhibit at the Yellow Barn drew steady streams of visitors as well as pleasantly crowded scrum for the Saturday evening reception. I believe every one of we Seven Palettes sold one or two framed paintings, along with ‘bin art’ (unframed originals and prints packed with mat and backing), and greeting cards based on our art.
A framed print of “The Red Hat”, an archival giclee of one of my favorite iPad paintings, found a good home, as did “Red on Yellow, C&O Canal Autumn”, one of my gouache paintings. I also sold several matted giclees and a print on tempered glass from my “Fruit, Veggies & Flowers” iPad series. I don’t think I’ve shown you what the glass printings look like. Here’s a snapshot of several (the black around each is padding to protect the tiles during shipping).
Some iPad Prints on Tempered Glass
Many of the visitors asked questions about the ins and outs of iPad art, as well as gouache, so maybe there will be further opportunities to teach those techniques,
